While your intentions might be pure and you might assume you’re helping the other person, relating others people’s stories back to yourself can come off as rude. While the other person might appreciate hearing that they’re not alone and that there are people that went through exactly what they’re going through right now, your kindness might make you seem rather self-involved, rather than helpful.

10. Offering your opinion without being asked
Heidi McBain, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Flower Mound, Texas stated that while your opinion might be needed sometimes, there are also moments when it’s better to keep it to yourself, especially if no one asked you for it.

11. Not accepting compliments
There are people that just don’t know how to accept a compliment, whether it’s because of modesty, or because they feel like they don’t deserve it. Either way, not accepting compliments can put you in an awkward situation and make the other person feel uncomfortable.
Don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean you have to accept every compliment a stranger on the street makes, but when it comes from a person you know, or someone close to you, rejecting their compliment might be rude.
12. Make people feel bad for not knowing something
Most people have a skill they’re very good at, whether it’s playing the piano, math, or cooking, you’re never allowed to make someone feel bad for not knowing something. Even though you have expertise in a certain field that doesn’t mean you should make people feel bad for not excelling in a specific subject.
Instead of constantly rolling your eyes, just try to imagine how you would like to be treated if you were to be in his position.
