13. Bringing smelly food to work
It’s not quite appropriate to bring smelly foods to work unless you’d want your colleagues to classify you as rude. According to Thomas, try to eat onion-heavy foods and reheated fish at home, if you want to stay on the right side with the people you’re sharing a kitchen with.
Even though it might seem like something harmless for you, there are sensitive people that could get serious headaches and nausea from smelly foods.
14. Forgetting names
Remembering the names of everyone you meet on a daily basis is impossible. However, forgetting the names of those who you frequently interact with can make them feel disrespected. And you can’t blame this on your bad memory, because it more of a situation that requires your attention, rather than your memory.
15. Telling people to smile
Forcing someone to smile when they don’t feel like doing so is pretty rude. Even though you had a great day and your intentions might be pure, it’s never ok to force someone to do something they don’t want to do.
By asking someone to smile, you might make them feel even worse than they did before because sometimes faking a smile can be the hardest thing to do.
16. Crossing your arms
Crossing your arms might seem like an innocuous gesture than one makes when feeling cold or just want to be comfy, but it can also make you seem distant and unapproachable. This posture will make people feel like you don’t want to talk to them, or that something is bothering you.
Instead, you should try to put your hand on your hips, in your pockets, or at your sides if you don’t want to seem standoffish.
17. Asking people if they have or want children
While it may seem like a normal question to ask, you have no right to inquire about another person’s life, especially if you don’t know them very well. You can’t know what people are going through in their personal lives, maybe the person you’re asking if she has kids is currently struggling to get pregnant or had a miscarriage.
