More money for aging and disability services
The American Rescue Plan includes provisions for more funding for aging and disability services programs. People with disabilities have been seriously affected by the pandemic, as nursing facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and group homes for such individuals have become less safe than one’s own home. Isolating at home left disabled people with fewer options and less help than in a congregate facility.
For this round of financial help, state and local services that provide support to disabled people should get a major boost of $12.67 billion to build and support their Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) capacity.
