COVID-19 vaccines and herd immunity

What we know

Health providers in the United States are administering around 1.6 million vaccine doses every day, with more than 11 percent of Americans receiving the vaccine according to data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Health experts are counting on people developing herd immunity to get rid of the coronavirus. According to the CDC, herd immunity is when a sufficient number of people in a community are protected against disease because they’ve already been infected with the disease or because they’ve been vaccinated. Herd immunity will prevent the spread of the virus from one person to another and even to people in the previously mentioned groups who cannot receive the vaccine.

MY WIFE AND I ARE OVER 70 AND NEITHER OF US HAVE BE CONTACTED. THE HOSPITAL SAID THAT WE SHOULD CONTACT OUR PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR AND THAT PERSON SHOULD TELL US WHEN WE WOULD GET OUR SHOT.
WE BOTH HAVE DIFFERENT PRIMARY CARE DOCT0RS. I JUST DON’T WANT EITHER OF US GETTING THE VIRUS AND PASSING AWAY. WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR OVER 33 YEARS AND WE ARE VERY CLOSE. WE BOTH HAVE THINGS WRONG WITH US. SHE IS A DIABETIC AND HIGH BLOOD PRESURE. I HAVE PTSD AND HEAD TRAUMA AND ARTHRITIS PRETTY BAD, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, AND WE BOTH SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION. DO YOU RECOMMEND ANYTHING WE SHOULD DO OR NOT DO.

    1. You didn’t mention which state you live in, but my mother lives in Florida and she contacted her county health department and has already received her vaccine. We live in Virginia and our county’s health department is pre-registering people under 65 for appointments when the vaccine is available for them. People with underlying conditions do not have to wait and, in our state, don’t need to provide medical proof of that condition. Hope this helps. Goood luck!

    2. CALL YOUR HEALTH DEPARTMENT WHERE YOU LIVE. I DID AND I’VE RECEIVED MY FIRST SHOT. THEY WILL ASKED YOU SOME QUESTIONS AND THEN TELL YOU WHEN YOU CAN GET YOUR FIRST SHOT.
