What we do not know

Depending on the disease, there are different percentages of people who need to get protected, either by the vaccine or by infection with the virus, to achieve herd immunity. In the case of COVID-19, there are various opinions as to the percentage of the population required to have protection against the virus in order to get rid of it.

Initially, experts estimated that 60 to 70 percent of the population will need to get resistant to the virus. Recently, however, the numbers have slightly shifted upward, with Dr. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), saying that “when newer surveys said 60 percent or more would take it, I thought, ‘I can nudge this up a bit,’ so I went to 80, 85.”

“We need to have some humility here,” he added. “We really don’t know what the real number is. I think the real range is somewhere between 70 to 90 percent. But, I’m not going to say 90 percent,” Fauci added.

MY WIFE AND I ARE OVER 70 AND NEITHER OF US HAVE BE CONTACTED. THE HOSPITAL SAID THAT WE SHOULD CONTACT OUR PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR AND THAT PERSON SHOULD TELL US WHEN WE WOULD GET OUR SHOT.
WE BOTH HAVE DIFFERENT PRIMARY CARE DOCT0RS. I JUST DON’T WANT EITHER OF US GETTING THE VIRUS AND PASSING AWAY. WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR OVER 33 YEARS AND WE ARE VERY CLOSE. WE BOTH HAVE THINGS WRONG WITH US. SHE IS A DIABETIC AND HIGH BLOOD PRESURE. I HAVE PTSD AND HEAD TRAUMA AND ARTHRITIS PRETTY BAD, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, AND WE BOTH SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION. DO YOU RECOMMEND ANYTHING WE SHOULD DO OR NOT DO.

    1. You didn’t mention which state you live in, but my mother lives in Florida and she contacted her county health department and has already received her vaccine. We live in Virginia and our county’s health department is pre-registering people under 65 for appointments when the vaccine is available for them. People with underlying conditions do not have to wait and, in our state, don’t need to provide medical proof of that condition. Hope this helps. Goood luck!

    2. CALL YOUR HEALTH DEPARTMENT WHERE YOU LIVE. I DID AND I’VE RECEIVED MY FIRST SHOT. THEY WILL ASKED YOU SOME QUESTIONS AND THEN TELL YOU WHEN YOU CAN GET YOUR FIRST SHOT.
