Getting the second dose
As explained by the CDC, “persons should not be scheduled to receive the second dose earlier than recommended (i.e., 3 weeks [Pfizer-BioNTech] or 1 month [Moderna]).” If there’s no other way, the agency says that a grace period of several days is necessary. “Second doses administered within a grace period of 4 days earlier than the recommended date for the second dose are still considered valid,” the CDC says.
As for doses administered earlier even than the grace period, the agency says they should not be repeated. Also, if a delay in administering the doses cannot be avoided, the CDC informs that the 2nd dose of both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines can be given up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first shot.

DO YOU RECOMMEND ANYTHING WE SHOULD DO OR NOT DO.
You didn’t mention which state you live in, but my mother lives in Florida and she contacted her county health department and has already received her vaccine. We live in Virginia and our county’s health department is pre-registering people under 65 for appointments when the vaccine is available for them. People with underlying conditions do not have to wait and, in our state, don’t need to provide medical proof of that condition. Hope this helps. Goood luck!
