What happened right after the queen’s death?
We were definitely not the first to find out. The queen’s death triggered a very complex set of actions that are famously known as “London Bridge”. These plans were meant to cover everything, from breaking the news of the queen’s death to the public and the funeral itself 10 days later.
It was well known that the death of the queen was to be announced with “London Bridge is down”, through a secured phone line to the British prime minister. At that exact moment, he or she will know that the reign of Queen Elizabeth II is over and a new reign is about to start.
In a short period of time, the Press Association will be the first one to be informed and a black-bordered notice will be pinned on the gates of Buckingham Palace, by a footman who’s entirely dressed in black. And indeed, it happened just like that.
