4. Churros
Arriba! If this doesn’t sound Spanish to you, then I don’t know what does. But what if churros aren’t from Mexico? Well, you guessed it, they aren’t. Churros are actually from China. Weird, right?
Because you’re not expecting something that sounds Hispanic to be from China, and you’re probably eating them for the first time while on vacation somewhere completely away from Asia.
Churros are easy to get from street food cuisine. They appeared as a breakfast food for the Chinese, and they were called “youtiao”, and they were the exact opposite of sweet.
The recipe for them is pretty easy to make, even in your kitchen, because a churro is actually a striped piece of dough that is deep fried and topped with a lot of sugar and cinnamon.
It was brought to Spain from Portugal around the 17th century.
