3. Doughnuts

…mmmm, doughnuts! Who watched the Simpsons back in the day? I did, and I remember Homer eating these, and it was fun because I always thought their origin was from America.

Dang! It’s not. Doughnuts are from Greece. In case you are wondering how they crossed the borders and arrived in America, I will tell you. In the first instance, doughnuts didn’t have this ring shape. And the earliest version of them was found when Dutch settlers brought them over from Europe to New York.

But Greece is the mother of doughnuts and they are actually called “Loukoumades.” Also, the recipe is a bit different than ours.

Apparently, they are small balls that are covered in walnuts and honey. Oh, Lord!

Another nice thing about doughnuts is that they might be the oldest dish too! And the winners from the first Olympic Games in Greece were served with them as a reward for their performance. So cool!
