1. Bannack, Montana
Bannack was known as the “Toughest Town in the West” in the early 1880s because of all the bandits who lived there. All of the illegal activity involving guns and other dangerous items was a “hype” at the time, making this city one of the most dangerous routes near Virginia City. A lot of people who were passing near this point confessed that they saw ghosts of the victims that were wandering around the Hotel Meade, which is supposed to be one of the abandoned town’s most haunted sites. Creepy, right?
It can be found near Yellowstone National Park, and its “gates” are open year-round, but you can only book a tour during the summer. There is also a festival that takes place in the third week of July, and it’s based on re-enactments of the events that happened in the 1860s.
