“My opinion is that more languages you speak, better it is, but when you come to America, you speak English.”
Yeah, it does sound as bad as that. After all, when you think about it, the United States is a “nation of immigrants” at its core since the first settlers came to from Europe a few centuries ago. And for someone who is known to be able to speak several languages (Melania was born in Slovakia and is said to speak five foreign languages), it sounds a little arrogant to say something like this.
Besides that, the USA does not have an official language, no matter how much some would yell and bang on the table that it is English. It is the most widespread one that is used, but with how many languages are spoken around the world depending on the part of the country, there would be a lot of people against declaring one. It’s not a good look to say something like this!
