What does the United States usually import from Russia?
The United States buys predominantly natural resources from Russia and these types of tariffs are usually low or even zero for metals and oils such as uranium, palladium, silver bullion, and rhodium.
There are also other imports, such as cartridge shells, plywood, semi-finished steel products, bullets, and chemical products. Ed Gresser, director for trade and global markets at the Progressive Policy Institute, stated that the USA’s imports from Russia are in majority natural resources, so the tariffs won’t be very affected after the loss of the MFN status.
In order to restore the actual tariff rates, people from the US who want to purchase Russian goods would have to pay additional import taxes, which are settled under a 1930 US law. This type of law was responsible for disturbing the trade process during the Great Depression.
