Insults and Interruptions – What Did We Learn From the Presidential Debate

Many are already entrenched in their respective camps and remain statuesque in their support of either candidate. With 35 days until the election and opinion polls suggesting that Biden holds a single digit lead over Trump after the debate, what did we learn from last night?

This debate has widely been seen as an embarrassing display with Trump unable to follow the rules and etiquette of the traditional presidential debate. Biden did interrupt a few times but president Trump spoke over or interrupted his opponent some 73 times. The tone of the debate was established early on.

Many expected and knew Trump would attack Biden not on his policies but his person, however, Biden stooped to that level in the early stages of the debate, calling the president a ‘clown’ as the candidates sparred over healthcare.

It didn’t get much better as the two moved onto discussing the Supreme Court and Mr Biden’s refusal to answer when asked if he would try to expand the number of judges. This exchange caused the Democratic candidate to snap back “Will you shut up, man?”, a comment that will now spawn a thousand memes on the internet, as will Biden’s later comment of “Keep yapping, man.”
