  • wake up at 6 am – yes, I know what you think. After a night of having fun, the last thing you want to do is wake up at 6 am. The time is not specific, you can wake up at 7 am as well, but according to a Polish tradition, if you wake up early on New Year’s Day, it won’t be a problem for you to wake up early for the rest of the year. So what is a “rough” morning, compared to 365 days of easy-breezy mornings? No more snoozing!
  • midnight kiss – I am sure you are aware of this superstition, especially with it being in every movie and festive music video that exists! It seems like everyone is making a big deal out of this, but it is actually not just an excuse to kiss someone. According to a superstition, it is believed that kissing someone that gives you goosebumps when it’s midnight, makes your love last at least all year long.
  • scarecrow burning – I have no clue if you happen to keep one of these things around your house, but if you have one that was left from Halloween, go ahead and throw it in the bonfire. In some regions from Ecuador, people use them to “burn” all the bad spirits and vibes from the past year.
  • taking laps around the house – I know that walking or running is the last thing you want to do when you start getting all glammed up for New Year’s Eve. But hear me out. It is believed that if you take seven laps around your house, you will be lucky all year round. Might be worth trying! And if you don’t end up being extremely lucky, at least you can say that you’ve been active on the last day of the year!
  • no crying allowed – Crying on January 1st is forbidden! It doesn’t matter how tired you are, how hungover you are, or whatever feeling you might have! Some people say that if you start crying on the first day of the new year, you will be crying several times for the next 12 months. Long story short, if you cry on this day, it will set the tone for the next 365 days. And in this case, it’s a no-no!
  • polka dots – Prints, prints, prints everywhere! Animal print, floral print, a basic print, or some polka-dots, we love them, especially when they might help us become wealthier! Got a cute polka-dotted printed clothing item in your closet? The last day of the year is the best day to wear that item! According to some citizens from the Philippines, it is believed that if you wear some polka-dotted pattern on December 31st, it will bring you a lot of abundance, wealth, and success for the following 12 months!
