Denying your pension
Yes, you might not receive your pension if your employer does not deem it appropriate. Let’s take the example of former Federal Bureau of Investigations deputy director Andrew McCabe. 26 hours to his retirement day, McCabe was fired in 2018 by Attorney General Jeff Sessions because he had allegedly lied under oath. His firing turned him non-eligible for receiving benefits based on a special benefit formula and prevented him from taking his pension at age 50.
In other words, if you’re one hour away from retirement and your employer decides your work has not been satisfactory, you risk losing your pension.
