A story I read somewhere, can’t be certain how true this is, is that when Truman was campaigning for US Senate in 1940, I think it was, he was warned that there would be KKK members in the audience at some place where he spoke. There Truman said, “The KKK must have been founded by a Jew, because who else could talk people into paying $16 [the KKK membership fee] for a set of sheets”.
