Soldiers and pilots

We’ve all heard about drones controlled by humans being used in warfare but there’s more and more talk about the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) capable of taking decisions on their own.

According to Popular Mechanics, the United Nations have recently discussed using more autonomous weaponry, with the idea being supported by several of its members, among which the United States and Russia.

At the moment, autonomous weapons systems are used by approximately 30 countries, including Israel, and the trend seems to be gathering momentum. There’s no estimation as to when or how many soldiers and pilots would be replaced by robots but AI supporters claim it’s in the interest and safety of military personnel to use more robots than humans. AI critics, on the other hand, claim the use of AI could have dramatic consequences on how wars are fought.
