Ticket fraud
This is another widespread online scam targeting consumers who want to buy tickets to large-scale events such as concerts, sporting events or galas. Tickets to these types of events are in high demand and usually sell out and that’s what scammers are trying to take advantage of.
Not that it’s any consolation but sometimes, the reported victims receive duplicate copies of real tickets. Most of the times, however, the scammers just take your money. So, watch out, millennials!
Familiarity fraud
In a more sophisticated twist of phishing, the scam has received an upgrade with a key element: impersonation. And not just any type of impersonation, but that of someone familiar to the user.
This type of scam thrives on social media where photos of family ad friends are the easiest to get and duplicate. Under the guise of familiarity, scammers squeeze personal information out of their victims and use it for their own financial gains.
