Phishing
Phishing is one of the most common online scams whose main purpose is to collect personal information such as passwords, social security numbers and credit card details.
Each month, internet users report around 100,000 phishing attempts made by cybercriminals posing as trustworthy institutions. From redirecting the users to attackers’ websites to infecting someone’s computer with malicious attachments, phishing can take many forms, so stay alert!
The Nigerian Prince
The Nigerian Prince scam is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Dating back to the 1990s, the scam consisted in receiving an e-mail from a so-called Nigerian prince or another member of the royal family asking for help to transfer money out of the country via your bank. A large financial reward was used as an incentive.
In other variations, you were asked to pay some fees or taxes to facilitate the transfer. Those who did said goodbye to their money forever!
