Throughout the Cod War, the United States of America and the Soviet Union were fighting for global primacy. Even if this particular rivalry often played itself out in various proxy wars, the two world powers were obsessed to be THE BEST, but also curious to know how a direct war between these two would unfold. Frankly, it’s the kind of curiosity that many of us could relate to, but NO ONE wants to see it put into practice. For the U.S., conflict scenarios were mainly envisioned using America’s biggest technological advantages, which were meant to offset the Russian forces, which were numerically superior.
As expected, the end of the Cold War has wildly dampened the potential for conflict between the two superpowers. Even more, their massive nuclear arsenals made it even more unlikely to ever reach a fighting point. When your enemy has such powerful weapons in his yard, you want to make sure you’re extremely cautious.
But this doesn’t mean that the enemies could ever walk on common ground, as the two world powers never even considered becoming allies. Truth be told, real and consistent tensions have remained over the years, and only recently, things have gotten…way worse.
