Protests in Minneapolis
After four nights of unrest and violent clashes in Minneapolis, mayor Jason Frey, urged people to stay home. “What started as largely peaceful protests for George Floyd have turned to outright looting and domestic terrorism in our region,” Mayor Frey wrote on Twitter.
“We are now confronting white supremacists, members of organized crime, out-of-state instigators, and possibly even foreign actors to destroy and destabilize our city and our region,” he added.
The National Guard was called for help on Thursday by Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota after numerous fires broke out during protests. “Let’s be very clear,” Mr. Walz said. “The situation in Minneapolis, is no longer, in any way, about the murder of George Floyd. It is about attacking civil society, instilling fear and disrupting our great cities,” Gov. Walz said.
