Jewelry
If you don’t actually know what the difference is between diamonds and cubic zirconia, you better skip purchasing any type of jewelry from a garage sale or thrift shop. For no other reason that you might be losing a few hundred or even thousand dollars for a fake.
Counterfeiters use centuries-old techniques to create fake things like gold, silver or gems, so unless you can trust the person you’re buying jewelry from or can spot what’s fake and what’s not, you might want to keep your hands out of your pocket.
Memorabilia
Do you know what your favorite athlete’s signature looks like? Even if you do, can you really be sure that what you see on a baseball card is real or not? If you’re not sure, then there’s no way you should pay an extra $100 for a baseball with John Hancock’s signature on it. At least not before you have it appraised.
The signed memorabilia business is quite profitable so, unless you want to become a victim of counterfeiters, don’t just take the word of someone you’ve never met on the veracity of signed memorabilia.
