Conventionally grown strawberries
Strawberries might be delicious and aromatic but, unfortunately, they are also among the most pesticide-laden produce item, as revealed by Environmental Working Group’s 2020 “Dirty Dozen” list. According to the nonprofit group, around 70% of “conventionally grown produce” has pesticides and 98% of strawberries, peaches, nectarines and cherries.
A small sample of strawberries can contain at least 20 pesticides. That’s a lot, coming from these tiny fruits!
The alternative, as recommended by health and nutrition experts, is to buy organic strawberries (and organic fruits and vegetables, in general) or, better yet, grow your own strawberries. You don’t need advanced agricultural knowledge to grow strawberries; due to being perennial plants, it’s enough to sow a crop one time for them to grow back every year.
