“I don’t want to die.”
The troubled English Singer Amy Winehouse’s final words were said to her doctor during a phone conversation, two hours before she was discovered with no pulse by her bodyguard. According to her personal guard, he had been at Winehouse’s residence three days before her death, observing her moderate drinking during those days and her “laughing, listening to music and watching TV at 2 a.m. the day of her death”. On the same day, he recalled having tried to wake her up around 10 a.m. Since Winehouse usually slept in after a night of partying, it didn’t seem odd that she wouldn’t wake up.
However, around 3 p.m., when he went to check on her again, he noticed her position in bed had not changed. At a closer inspection, he realized she was not breathing and immediately called the ambulance.
According to the coroner’s report, released on 26 October 2011, Amy Winehouse had 416 mg per 100 ml (0.416%) at the time of her death, five times the legal alcohol limit for drivers. She died of alcohol poisoning.
