5. Multi-buy offers
The majority of grocery stores carry multi-buy offers which usually trick the consumers into thinking they are saving money when they actually don’t. For instance, you might see an offer such as “3 for $3”, when the item individually is no more than $1 or $1.50, so you don’t save that much in the end.
6. Top deals
When you walk into a supermarket, you are more likely to be overwhelmed by tons of colored signs saying “low price”, or “top deal”. These products are cheaper than usual, but we recommend looking at what the original price was.
There are many people who say that these “top deals” are only a marketing trick and discounts don’t really exist. Besides that, they say that retailers have a profit strategy in mind even though they tell you this is a deal you don’t want to miss.
In addition to that, there are studies that discovered these so-called “deals” that were the same cost for a few months before the “discount”, while others had actually gone up in price.
7. Leave expired promotions on display
There are many stores that might forget to remove their promotions tags, making the customers believe that the deal is still on. As a result, when they get to the cash register, they pay more than they actually thought.
If you don’t want something like this to happen to you, make sure to check the date of the promotion when you want to buy certain products.
