Boomers are helping with children and household chores
A parent’s job is never done. This seems to be particularly true for the parents of millennials who reportedly never stop providing support to their children, mostly in the form of unpaid labor.
More than half of the millennials involved in the survey admitted to having received help with childcare or household issues. In money, this would amount to approximately $8,684 a year.
Boomer grandparents, for instance, provide around 14.5 hours of primary childcare every week and 9.2 hours of back-up care or babysitting. Apparently, grandparents who babysit their grandchildren live longer, so let’s just say it’s a win-win situation!
Millennials also admitted that their parents helped them with preparing meals, cleaning the house and running various errands for them. According to a 2018 study, 30 percent of millennials don’t plan on having kids, which means less childcare spending for boomers.
