Remove flyers and mail
Whenever you plan on going on a holiday, it’s best to stop any mail, newspaper delivery and package deliveries beforehand. A pile of mail or newspapers on your front porch is nothing but a dead giveaway that you’re not home and haven’t been for a while. In fact, burglars intentionally put flyers on the doors of targeted homes to see how long they are left there, especially during summer.
A smart way to deter any trespassers is to ask your neighbor to stop by from time to time to collect any random fliers or papers that might pile up while you’re gone.
Make friends with your neighbors
It’s important to get to know your neighbors and talk to them regularly about anything that might seem suspicious in your neighborhood. More than that, volunteer to supervise their homes when they are away so that they’ll do the same thing when you won’t be home. Apparently, neighborhoods where people look after each other’s properties, have lower crime rates.
