Close window blinds

Many thieves survey the area (or ‘case the joint’ as they say in the movies) before they actually make their move, looking through windows to spot the expensive items in the proximity of the door that could be easily carried out. Therefore, close window blinds at all times, to avoid curious eyes and prospective intruders, especially when you’re not at home.

Don’t stick to the same routine

Most people have a certain daily routine, especially people with a certain working schedule. This makes it easier for burglars to observe your pattern and plan their “attack” by learning your habits as well as the ones of your family members.  In fact, most burglaries are committed by thieves who live within a two-mile radius of the targeted homes.

More than that, most burglaries occur between 10 am and 3 pm. If you can, try leaving and returning at different hours. Another way to scare off possible intruders is to have a friend or neighbor come by your place every once in a while, to make their presence known.
