How common is tooth loss for seniors?
The National Institute of Health provided some reports that have shown how 27.27% of seniors over 65 years old have no natural teeth left. Even more, this number is rising to 31.30% of seniors who are over 75 years old.
All the other ones are missing at least one tooth or several others, sometimes even in sections, all because of natural wear and tear, illness, injury, or the same old poor maintenance. And, as we all expected, smokers and those who are living on a low income budget are the ones who are the most affected.
So having missing teeth is worrisome, as it creates many health and wellness problems for the elderly. Not only can it affect your smile, but it can even lead to the deterioration in your facial structure and loss of bone, which affects your overall appearance and self-confidence.
