3. The Bed Bug Detective – 2011
Bedbugs are small insects that live by feeding on the blood of animals and humans. They can’t fly, but they have the ability to move fast over walls, ceilings and floors. They can enter a home without being seen, through clothing, used mattresses or luggage.
They feed at night and the bites caused by them are painless in the beginning, but will turn into itchy welts. People tend to confuse the bedbugs bites to those that mosquitos make and they are not sure they have bedbugs until they see them.
4. The Electro Needle Biomedical Sensor Array – 2007
In 2007, Sandia National Laboratories developed a device that can take blood readings from patients without actually any external extraction of the blood.
It is shaped like a patch and it is placed on the patient’s skin, in order to read several values, such as carbohydrates, lipids, toxins, proteins, electrolytes, enzymes, viruses and bacteria.
Even though there are no needles involved, the patch can read the patient’s blood or intestinal cellular fluid. It functions by using electro-chemically treated probes, so it’s the perfect device for those who are afraid of needles.
