How Mr Zuckerberg offered to get America vaccinated but failed
Facebook promised to make a difference, promoting Covid-19 vaccines. In fact, it became “a top company priority”, in order to show how Mr. Zuckerberg’s creation is a force for social good and justice in the world.
But it ended up emphasizing the gap between his aspirations and the reality of the world’s largest social platform. There were so many activists that flooded the platform with what Facebook called “barrier to vaccination” content.
They used Facebook and its tools to plant doubt in the minds of many about the vaccines and the severity of the pandemic’s threat. The Covid-19 subject pointed out one thing: even if he set a goal, the chief executive couldn’t make the platform do what he wanted.
