9 Things You Should Cross Off Your Supermarket List

“Dirty Dozen” produce

Fruits and vegetables are important elements when it comes to a healthy diet. But, sometimes, they are not as healthy as we’d expect. That’s because they are chemically contaminated and full of pesticides.

According to the Environmental Working Group, strawberries, spinach, nectarines, apples, and peaches are the top five produce items loaded with pesticides and similar chemicals. Turns out an apple a day may not keep the doctor away!

Try: Wash your fruits and veggies thoroughly or better yet, go for cleaner options such as avocado, cabbage or pineapples.

Endcap items

If you don’t know what they are, endcap items are the products displayed at the end of an aisle, usually sold at a much faster pace. But being endcap doesn’t mean it’s a profitable buy.

Endcap items can be on sale but more often than not, such products are high-margin or about to expire. In addition, manufacturers can pay for the second display of their items to sell them faster.

Try: Before buying endcap products, take a walk down the other aisles and compare prices first.

  1. The only items where an expiration date is important is fresh Dairy. Almost all of the expiration dates on packaged products are BS. Himalayan salt comes tells you how many millions of years it has been in the ground, and an expiration date of 9 months, they dug that up in the nick of time. Bottles of water have expiration dates, is the water going to go bad? If in a plastic bottle it probably wasn’t healthy a minute after being bottle due to chemicals leaching, in a glass bottle you won’t live long enough for it to go bad. Buying staples like motor oil or ATF at a dollar store, can destroy your engine or transmission. Automotive fluids need to match the requirements of the vehicle, not be cheap. RTFM (read the fine manual) and purchase only what your vehicle requires.
