Scam emails and text messages
Phone calls are not the only types of fraudulent practices used by scammers to steal your money. The FBI has also issued a warning about receiving text messages and hyperlinks regarding Covid-19 from unknown sources. If you receive offers for vaccines, treatments, test kits and the like, do no open them as they may include malware that could damage your device.
“It’s a benefit to have a healthy paranoia,” said cybersecurity expert Mike Stamas, cofounder of GreyCastle Security in Troy, New York. “And if an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.” So, make sure you protect your computer devices, passwords and adhere to cybersecurity practices in general; also, warn other members of your family to not click on suspicious emails, respond to unsolicited offers, or interact with strangers via email, chat or a website.
