What happened at the Brooklyn station last Tuesday morning?
A very troubled man disguised himself as a construction worker and turned a Brooklyn subway car into a savage display of violence during the first hours of the morning rush on Tuesday. The aggressor set off smoke bombs before opening fire and wounding at least 29 people, according to officials.
The shooter, who has yet to be proven guilty, was “camouflaging” with a neon orange and green construction vest and neon green helmet and was muttering something to himself while traveling on a Manhattan-bound N train when he unleashed hellish mayhem on that Brooklyn subway car just before 8:30 am.
According to witness Fitim Gjeloshi, the suspect mumbled something that sounded like “Oops, my bad”, right after opening the canister. Then he pulled out an ax and dropped it to the floor. But as the crowded subway car was suddenly filled with smoke, the aggressor took out a 9mm semiautomatic Glock and fired 33 rounds randomly at commuters.
Out of the 33 rounds, he hit 10 victims and left at least 19 others severely wounded. Among those who were hurt, there were also two teens of ages 15 and 19, but also a pregnant woman who was shot in her leg, seven men, and three other women, according to the NYPD.
A principal suspect is a man with a mental-ill record, called Frank James. He warned last month that he was “entering the danger zone”. The aggressor said in one of his lengthy videos: “Mr. Mayor, I’m a victim of your mental health program. I am 63 years old now and I’m full of hate, anger, and bitterness.”
The man also heavily criticized the mayor for not even trying to do more to combat homelessness. The aggressor kept on saying: “Eric Adams, Eric Adams: So, what are you doing brother? What do you plan to do with this homeless situation? Every car I go into is full of homeless people. It’s so bad that I can’t even stand. I have to keep moving from car to car.” he said referring to the subway.
