With its incorporation of Crimea and support for the Donbas conflict, Russia has disobeyed the Budapest Memorandum Security Assurances for Ukraine, which is a 1994 agreement between the US, UK, and Russia that aims to protect the Ukraine’s sovereignty in exchange for its commitment to give up its nuclear arsenal.
Putin is threatening Ukraine and he is also transferring Russian armed forces into Belarus. His strategy makes analyzers ask questions about his plans of invading bordering territories.
Military assistance to the Ukraine, as well as political and economic sanctions, are all means for the United States of America to show Moscow that encroaching on a sovereign country would have consequences. Otherwise, the Kremlin may take additional military and political moves, endangering European security and stability.
