1. Milk
Believe it or not, but from all the big stores, Costco has the highest price when it comes to milk compared to Aldi. Go BankingRates found out from recent research that at Aldi you will pay $8.58 per 2 gallons, compared to Costco, where the same amount costs $8.70. It’s not a huge price difference, but it definitely adds up to the rest of the expenses if you consume milk on a daily basis.
Another well-known retailer, Ralphs, offers milk at a lower price than Costco, with 2 gallons going for $7.98. The fact that you are not required to purchase two gallons of milk if you don’t need them, in contrast to Costco, is yet another benefit that grocery stores have over the latter.

With regard to you stated milk prices at Costco, I check prices sometimes and find that milk is almost always cheaper at Costco than Publix and Walmart in southern Florida. Also, I have always been able to purchase single gallons for years.
The milk does not go bad until about a week after the sell by date, so it last longer in the fridge.
Don’t buy soda at Costco either. It’s no bargain, and in general you can get it cheaper at many grocery stores.
I get COSTCO delivered WHOLE milk for $3.22, cheapest in DC/VA
Oh my everything I buy regularly 😯
Stop shopping there
Some prices may be a little higher for chicken/meat but I find you always get better quality than like Aldi’s. Same for the fruits& veggies. You do have to shop around between various stores…
thats the price for boneless no skin
i buy it when its on sale
Nearest COSCO is 225 miles away, so I don’t shop there. I used to shop at SAFEWAY but it is 12 miles away, aisles are narrow, stuff is crammed in the spaces, they ceased having a Senior Discount day. I now shop at a mom and pop store, Cole’s Grocery, only 6 miles from my home. They have 95% of what I want, offer a senior discount of 10 percent every Wednesday, handicapped parking is right in front, easy to pop in, pick up a few items, and leave.
These factors offset any price advantage Safeway offers
Wow on the prices didn’t know !!
As a long time Costco customer I declare this article pure BS.
I prefer to buy the organic chicken at Costco, it’s one place I can usually find it. I also like the ground bison and lean no antibiotic ground beef.
Very interesting because these were all products I buy at Costco. I’m not sure where the price is that high for the Sensodyne toothpaste but don’t think I pay that much for it? Will check it out next time I am at Costco. avocados, generally $6 for 5 avocado’s. Maybe prices vary by state?
Someone can’t do math. 4 tubes of toothpaste for $32 is certainly less expensive per tube($8) than the $14 tube at Ralphs.
There is no comparison between Costco’s Hass Avocados which are two to three times larger and have better flavor. And what in the world do you mean by Quality being better than Quality? Why not advise people to eat dog food?? (The cheap kind).
On toothpaste example, 1 tube of sensodyne at other than Costco is $13.99, and 4 pack Costco is $31.99, or $7.99 per tube. So Costco is much more affordable. Second, large chain grocery stores make it difficult to get any savings by using Digital coupons with a website that is too hard to navigate for savings, which most often are not equal to or less than Costco regular prices. Store staff are told not to help customers navigate site….simply too much hassle.
Next, quality of meats like Salmon, NY steak and other cuts (except chicken) are more lean USDA Choice, and Costco does not hide fatty portions tucked under the bottom of pack, where grocery store does. In addition, a Tbone steak at Costco has all portions the same with filet piece left on all steaks, and the butcher at the store puts two full Tbones and two without filet piece. This is essentially selling an inferior cut of meat at premium price. I will not shop major chains anymore. Go costco.
My husband and I live in a semi-rural county. We joined Costco several years ago for when we need to buy high priced items or disposable things like toilet paper, paper towels, etc. But we are an hour and half away from either Costco so we do not buy fresh food, just sometimes canned or shelf goods.
The big hoax of Costco. Don’t forget the amount of purchases required just to recover the membership cost. Rip off big time.
Great lead on that email and then the goal to collect info. Direct Marketing at it’s best. MK former President American Marketing Association Phoenix Chapter.
It is true, the cost is justtoo high. It is useless paying for membership, for what, discount?
I wish they reduced the price or eliminate the membership charge. Thank you for information.
I do shop at Costco. I was just there today. I agree with your assessment. I never buy those items there. I figured that out on my own. Thanks. I enjoyed reading your article.
Been a member since the first store opened here . Guessing
