Does Brexit Affect The US?

Untrustworthy Ally

The post World War II history of the relationship between the U.S. and the U.K. has been fondly referred to as a ‘special relationship’. Both Trump and Johnson have spoken highly of their counterpart on either side of the Atlantic.

However, any post-Brexit relationship between the U.S. and U.K. could be severely undermined by a distinct lack of trust on both sides.
Many on the left (and some on the right) in British politics have voiced their concerns about Trump’s trustworthiness as an ally, using examples like his abandoning of the Kurds.

On the U.S. Side, many feel Johnson’s integrity is questionable, especially regarding his intentions to maintain the Good Friday Agreement. Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently issued a warning that the House of Representatives would block any trade agreement with the U.K. if its withdrawal from the E.U. threatens peace in Northern Ireland.
