In 2002, Beau married Hallie Olivere, and they had two children together: Natalie Biden and Robert Hunter Biden II. Beau announced that he wants to run for governor of Delaware in 2016, but he tragically passed away in 2015, at only 46 years old, after a long-time battle with brain cancer.
The death deeply impacted Biden and Jill. “After our son, Beau, tragically died of cancer, we wondered if we’d ever smile or feel any kind of joy ever again.” according to Dr. Jill Biden. “Even if it was summer, there was no warmth left for me.”
She also recalled how brave was Biden as he walked through the grief of losing his son. “I still can’t imagine how he did it – how he put one foot in front of the other and kept going,” Jill remembered. “But I’ve always understood why he did it.”
