Require a signature

Once you’ve added everything in your shopping cart and inserted your payment information, there’s one more thing you need to do before selecting your shipping details: tick off the “signature required” box. Most delivery services such as UPS, FedEx, DHL, and USPS provide this safety option for their customers.

If you know you won’t be at home to sign for the delivery, try to have the delivery rerouted to a neighbor’s place. This option is available with UPS MyChoice but there might be other delivery services that have this possibility. You can also set up a specific delivery time or, in some cases, you can ask for delivery confirmation, too.

Consider a package receiving service

If you’re not spending too much time at home to be able to receive your deliveries, consider finding a paid service that will receive and keep your packages safe until you’re able to collect them yourself. For instance, FedEx and UPS provide international locker services but also local ones. If you live in a big city like New York, you can find self-service lockers and alternative pickup locations by using Go Locker and City CoPilot apps.

If you are out of town, you can also rent a USPS post office box or simply ask for your deliveries to be held until you come back. UPS can keep your packages for at least three days and for a maximum of 30 days while Fed Ex accepts holds for up to 14 days.
