Surprisingly, one thing that is among the most revealing in terms of personality is what you do with the shopping cart. According to the theory that originated on Reddit, whether or not someone returns the shopping cart can determine the moral character and self-governing capacities of that person.
According to the theory, returning the shopping cart “is an easy, convenient task and one which we all recognize as correct, the appropriate thing to do. To return the shopping cart is objectively right. Simultaneously, it is not illegal to abandon your shopping cart. Therefore, the shopping cart presents itself as the apex example of whether a person will do what is right without being forced to do it.”
Of course, some might argue it’s not a strong enough reason to call someone good or bad…but the theory can show that you’re dealing with a decent, kind person who follows a certain code of conduct.
