Sharing a portion of food that’s too big for you to eat on your own with a friend or allowing one to take a bite using your fork is a major no-no in the times of COVID-19. It was never without risks of catching a cold but now, more than ever, it’s something you simply shouldn’t do.

“The virus is contagious enough that contaminants from your saliva or even just your hands can end up infecting your friend, or vice versa,” says Patricia Celan, MD. If you feel awkward not sharing your food, at least use disposable plates and cutlery, recommends naturopathic doctor Stacy Mobley, NMD, MPH, “If your friend wants to sample your dish, retrieve a clean utensil to remove some from your plate and place it on theirs,” she advises.
