Medical Care Overseas
Many people disregard Medicare policy overseas and assume medical services are also covered by the health care program when traveling abroad. In reality, Medicare does not cover care you receive while outside of the U.S, except for special cases like being on a cruise ship within six hours of a U.S. port.
However, Medigap plans C via G, M and N do cover 80% of the cost of emergency care overseas and there are also certain Medicare Advantage plans that help you pay emergency care received abroad. Then again, you can always buy a travel insurance policy that provides coverage for some medical expenses while you’re outside of the U.S. and even for emergency medical evacuation.
