A cough that won’t stop isn’t necessarily linked to heart trouble. Even so, if you know that you suffer from heart disease or you’re at risk in any way, you should pay attention to this symptom as well.
A long-lasting cough that comes with white or pink mucus could be a sign of heart failure. It can occur when the heart can’t keep up with the body’s demands, which causes blood to leak back into the lungs.
This can lead to shortness of breath with exercise, or even difficulty breathing when you’re just resting or lying flat in bed. Lung congestion can also lead to hacking cough or wheezing.
