Netflix and the controversial suicide scene
“13 Reasons Why” is a popular Netflix show that first aired in 2017 and discussed controversial issues such as bullying and suicide. In one of the show’s episodes, the protagonist commits suicide, in a very graphic and intense scene.
Many people and mental health experts expressed their worry that the scene glorifies suicide and encourages other teenagers to consider it. Netflix was urged to remove it and the scene was finally edited out in July, 2019.
