You get Social Security benefits or don’t usually file taxes

If you are the recipient of Social Security benefits or your income is not high enough to file taxes, the IRS might need extra time to verify if you qualify for a third stimulus payment. This requires information from the Social Security Administration (SSA).

According to the IRS, payments to most Social Security beneficiaries who do not file tax returns and qualify for stimulus checks will be delivered electronically by April 7, either through direct deposit or to existing Direct Express cards. This is valid for Social Security retirement, survivor or disability (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) recipients who did not file taxes in 2019 or 2020.
