Why do people start collecting so early?
The answer to this question is more of a guessing game since there were no studies performed. Even so, the biggest reason why Americans are collecting benefits so early is simply because they need the money sooner. Some people are forced to retire earlier than they wanted due to their health or career situation.
If you’ve been saving responsibly throughout your life, the savings and your Social Security benefits may be enough to have a decent retirement. However, each situation is different and it would be hard to give a predictive answer for everybody.
