This next revelation might not come as a shock and more par for the course, but the British Royal family might disagree. The son and second child of the former Azeri leader Heydar Aliyev, Ilham Aliyev became president of Azerbaijan in 2003 following the death of his father. With Azerbaijan being oil-rich, the Aliyev family have enriched themselves through state run businesses and it has been long known that much of the family wealth is hidden offshore.
The revelation provided by the Pandora Papers has shown that in the last few years the Aliyev family has spent some £400m trading in UK property. One of the properties sold was to the current Queen’s crown estate for £67m, which has many critics asking why the Queen of England is doing business with a family that runs a country notorious for its widespread corruption.
