Old meat
Don’t be fooled by red meat’s healthy appearance. It might be older than you think. The meat in grocery stores often appears fresh and ready to cook, but in most cases, it is not. Grocery employees are doing something called “atmospheric packaging” that implies injecting carbon monoxide gas into all the meat packages.
They do this to increase the meat’s life span and to make it look delicious and red. This is an old practice that is usually used for beef or pork because it is less demanding compared to chicken or turkey. Researchers from the Bureau of Public Health Protection recommend paying attention to the expiration date rather than the color of the meat.
Be careful what you’re buying and put your health first!

I know that they re-package the meat and change the date on the label to make it seem fresher.
