5. Clean your house as well as possible
This is a superstition that comes straight from Asia, and it’s connected to the fact that cleaning can “sweep” the negativity out of your house and your life, leaving the space clean and fresh for the year to come. They say “off with the old, in with the new.”
So why are you still waiting? Start immediately with your New Year’s Eve deep cleaning!
6. Or…Don’t!
This one is pretty gloomy! While a lot of people are trying to make their homes as clean and tidy as possible, there are others who avoid cleaning at all costs on New Year’s Eve. Why? Because the legend says that washing clothing on New Year’s Day is equivalent to “washing for the dead” or “washing a loved one away,” which predicts that a member of your family will pass away in the upcoming year. So if you want to avoid misfortune at all costs, by New Year’s Eve, make sure your laundry is washed, dried, folded, and put away!
The same rule applies if you’re planning to take out the trash, since everybody believes this means you’re throwing away your luck.
