Stay on alert and protect yourself
As an uptick in fraudsters trying to rip people off is expected to take place, here’s what authorities want you to understand so that you do not become a victim of any vaccine-related scam.
- The early doses of the vaccines will be available to healthcare workers and elderly care home residents. If you want to find out when the vaccine will be distributed to your group, turn to trusted resources such as your doctor or local health department. - The COVID-19 vaccine or related coronavirus treatment cannot be purchased on the internet or from an online pharmacy. There will be special places where you’ll be able to find the COVID-19 vaccine, such as these 10 grocery store chains.
- Patients will be able to receive the vaccines bought with U.S. taxpayer dollars, free of charge. However, providers can charge an administration fee, which will be reimbursed by private and public insurance companies. Uninsured patients can also be reimbursed.
- People should not reply to any telemarketing calls, text messages, social media platforms and door-to-door visits. Government and state officials will not call or visit the general public to ask for money or personal, medical or financial information in exchange for COVID-19 services.
